The alert was given this Tuesday March 24 shortly before 10 am by a farmer living near the scene of the disaster.
Nine firefighters and several gendarmes dispatched, an impressive plume of smoke, visible from several kilometers away … and a risk of the generator falling, engulfed in flames. The situation was tense this Tuesday morning, near the Bouleste wind farm, in Flavin, where one of the five wind turbines on the site caught fire shortly before 10 am for an undetermined reason.
It was a farmer near the scene of the disaster who gave the alert after seeing the flames escaping from the generator of the machine, 67 meters high. Due to the impossibility for the fire brigade to water the latter, operations consisted in establishing a safety perimeter, to prevent any risk linked to a possible fall of the generator or even collapse, under the effect of heat, metallic structure. With, in this case, a risk of spread of the fire.
In service since 2010, the wind turbine, like the other four installed in this park, generates a power of 2 megawatts and is operated by the company Boralex, a technician of which must go quickly on site.
