At least US Senator from Tennessee Lamar Alexander is smart enough to recognize the scam of wind energy…

Thanks very much for getting in touch with me and for letting me know what’s on your mind regarding wind energy and the wind production tax credit (PTC).
As Congress is focused on ending wasteful and unnecessary tax breaks that are holding us back, I have proposed a nomination: At the top of the list should be ending the quarter-century-old wind PTC this year—not two years from now. The wind PTC is a massive taxpayer subsidy to windmill developers that was put in place in 1992 to jumpstart a new technology. However, 25 years later, windmills are a mature technology. In December 2015, the subsidy was extended for the tenth time through the end of 2019. Ending the credit two years early is a bigger deal than it sounds. Every wind developer benefits from their credit for a decade, so taxpayers will still be paying this year’s beneficiaries in 2027.
We need to stop picking winners and losers in the marketplace and instead let our free enterprise system provide the abundance of cheap, clean, reliable energy we need to power our 21st-century economy. Our country uses about 20% of the electricity in the world. Relying on windmills to produce electricity when nuclear power is available is the energy equivalent of going to war in sailboats when nuclear ships are available.
After billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies wind still produces only 6% of our electricity and windmills work only about 35% of the time. Nuclear power produces 20% of our electricity, over 60% of our clean electricity, and produces power over 90% of the time. For more jobs and cheap, reliable power, our country needs more nuclear reactors—not more windmills.
I am grateful that you took the time to get in touch with me. Your comments are important to me and I’ll be sure to keep them in mind as these issues are discussed and debated in Washington and Tennessee.
