I wanted to make sure that all the members of our community understand who Greenwich Neighbors United (GNU) is and what are purpose is.
In the summer of 2014, a number of our neighbors started talking about the possibility of having wind turbines in our backyards. We didn’t fully understand the process of how to get involved with the decision-makers nor did we understand the effects of wind turbines in our community. So, a small group of us formed a coalition called GNU. We started meeting regularly and our group continued to grow. The goal of GNU is to share our knowledge about wind turbines and the pending project, and communicate and educate the members of Greenwich. Our goal has never been to be critical of the leaseholders and understand that every property owner must make up his or her own mind on these issues.
Once we got more knowledgeable about the process at the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB), we learned that we had to hire a lawyer to be a formal party to the case. Since then we’ve been actively fighting the wind power developer because we’ve learned that communities who have these industrial-sized turbines in their community suffer from health effects and negatively impact the environment.
We’ve worked hard to keep the community updated and educated. We are thankful for all the support we have received and we look forward to continuing to protect our town. We are moving forward on the legal front because we feel very strongly that these 25 turbines would turn our beautiful and tranquil farming community into an unattractive and noisy area. We don’t want our backyards to be used by an out-of-state company to make money.
I know there have been a lot of questions about where we are in the process and I wanted you all to know that we aren’t done yet. As Chairman of GNU, I pledge to continue to keep you updated and educated while respecting all of our neighbors. If you need more information, go to www.greenwichneighborsunited.com. Thank you and God Bless. Kevin Ledet, Chairman, GNU
