SAWU ACTION ALERT****ODOT Office of Aviation needs to hear from you ASAP!!

**** Action Request ****

Wind projects have to submit the locations of each turbine to the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) for their review. The FAA then makes these locations known to the public by posting them on their website. They then allow a certain period for public comments. When Seneca Wind LLC submitted their locations, they mislabeled them as being near Bloomfield instead of Bloomville. Since there is no Bloomfield anywhere near Seneca County the FAA report was pretty much totally ignored by Seneca County residents. This has led the FAA to believe that no one has concerns about the turbines and their effect on local aviation.

This issue has been brought to the attention of the Ohio Dept of Transportation Office of Aviation which advises the Ohio Power Siting Board on wind project aviation concerns. The Ohio office now wants to hear from anyone who did not express concerns about the Seneca Wind project turbine’s effects on aviation because they did not realize the locations labeled Bloomfield were in fact the Seneca Wind turbines.

We are asking as many people as possible to email
Let them know you are very concerned about the Seneca Wind project’s effects on our County airport in which we have invested $millions of dollars. Our airport was built and is maintained for the economic benefits it brings to the county. Allowing an outside corporation to degrade its safety and usefulness is unacceptable. We are also extremely concerned about the safety hazard the turbines will cause air ambulances and agricultural aerial application in and near the project.

Also, it’s important to note that you would have stated your concerns sooner but were confused by the “Bloomfield” label.

These emails must be sent by Thursday 7/25 to have the desired effect. A sample email from a local resident is below. Please express your concerns in your own words though.

Thank you for your support,

As a business owner and taxpayer in Seneca County Ohio I have both contributed and benefited from our local Seneca County airport. Its benefits to economic growth over the past many decades have been truly significant.

Because I own land in the footprint of the Seneca Wind project, I have been following its development closely and trying to keep track of every detail. I had heard that the project’s proximity to the airport could cause trouble and was advised to watch the FAA website for info. I was surprised to find that even though I had been monitoring the FAA site I totally missed the information because it was labeled “Bloomfield”. There is no Bloomfield anywhere around here, so I never connected that information with Seneca County.

I know I am not alone in this confusion and I would hope that your agency realizes that a lack of feedback on the turbine locations in Seneca County may well be because of this mislabeling of information. Be assured the citizens of Seneca County are VERY concerned about any degradation of our airport’s usefulness caused by 600-foot-tall wind turbines. We are even more deeply troubled by the issues that will be caused for air ambulance service to the area. Public safety does not seem to be a high priority in the permitting of wind projects. And that feels totally unacceptable for an agency that exists to serve the people of Ohio.

Thank you
