It’s 5am…the temperature is 9°..with even colder air to come this weekend. We have not seen the sun in days…and the the closest sustained 15 mph wind speed is 300 miles or more from here. Look at the electrical generating capacity chart for the current Southwest Power Pool and it should be clear to anyone that if we were relying on solar and wind to heat our homes, charge our batteries,, run our lights, and anything else electrical right now…we would all be in a world of hurt. Coal and natural gas are generating all but a little bit of the electricity across the entire center of the U.S. right now. They are both NECESSARY as energy resources now and in the future unless you want to return to the stone age. Renewables always sound good until you have to count on them in a crunch.
