Vestas wind turbine completely damaged by fire
A Vestas wind turbine caught fire on Saturday in a field near Durup.
Shortly after arriving, the fire department began blocking the area, but did not try to put out the flames in the burning windmill.
– We have no idea whether the blades can fall off, so we wait for Vestas to come, and then we decide whether the mill needs to burn out or whether we can get closer, explains inmate Jan Christensen from Northwest Jutland Fire Department.
He advises everyone curious to stay at a proper distance from the wind turbine.
– They have to stay away. We are blocking the roads so you cannot get up here, says Jan Christensen.
The firefighters stay at the wind turbine until the fire is extinguished and they are sure that no mill parts will fall down, which will set fire to the field.
It is not yet known why there was a fire in the windmill.
