The recent revelation that Highland CO2 emissions have increased by 28 per cent was a slap in the face to all those having to endure monstrous industrial wind turbines, their giant pylons and sprawling substations.
We have been forced to accept thousands of these in our communities and landscapes because we were told they would help save the planet. That was after the reliable electricity generation from the weather-dependent energy factoid was well and truly debunked. Those of us who have fought against these abominations for years knew they could not hack down millions of trees that absorb and store CO2 or rip up vast swathes of carbon-holding peat without there being a payback. But the policymakers don’t listen to any but the wind industry, their valuable lobbyists from “environmental” groups and deeply misinformed politicians.
We know that grid connections that may be many miles from remote wind farms are bizarrely not included in the planning process for developments, nor is the carbon footprint calculated as part of the industrialisation that they serve.
The wind farce grows with increasing lunacy as the Scottish Government are now devastating thousands of acres more of our precious environments with bigger and more dominating turbines.
When will the government see the absurdity of what they are doing and slam on the brakes, take a deep breath and try and understand what independent engineers and economists are telling them – that more wind development makes no sense at all?
